Feeling Overwhelmed? That’s Normal. Here’s How to Get Through Week One
Starting army service or Sherut Leumi is a huge transition. It’s exciting — but it can also feel scary, overwhelming, and lonely. If you’re feeling that way during your first week, you’re not alone. And more importantly, it’s completely normal.
Here are a few ways to get through those tough first days:
1. Breathe. Take it one day at a time. Focus only on what you need to do today — not the entire journey ahead.
2. Lower your expectations. It’s okay if you don’t understand everything yet. You’re learning a whole new system and lifestyle.
3. Find one familiar thing. Bring a favorite snack, a photo, or something from home that comforts you.
4. Talk about it. Don’t keep your feelings inside. Reach out to a friend, a madricha, or contact The Base for support. You don't have to navigate this alone.
5. Be kind to yourself. Everyone struggles at the beginning. With time, you’ll build confidence, skills, and strength.
Remember: being overwhelmed doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re growing.
